4 Ways to Identify and Get Rid of Roaches

With nearly 4,500 species of cockroaches, it’s no surprise that they’re hard to tell apart. The first step in getting rid of roaches is being able to identify them. Different methods of extermination are more effective depending on the type of cockroach you’re dealing with. Even though they all may look alike, there’s distinguishing features you can use to know the difference between all of them. Be one step ahead, and know what kind of enemy you’re facing. Know the four major types of cockroaches and how to get rid of them:

Brown -Banded Cockroach: These creepy crawlers are one of the smaller types of roaches you may encounter, at only 1/2 of an inch long. They received their name from the yellow bands present on the wings of adults and the bodies of younger ones. You’ll find Brown-Banded cockroaches scuttling around in the middle of the night, because they’re primarily nocturnal. Eliminate these roaches with Combat Source Kill for Small Roaches or Roach Killing Bait Strips.

German Cockroach: You’ll discover these little suckers hiding in the walls of houses, restaurants, and even hotels. If you see roaches feasting on grease and garbage, they’re likely German cockroaches. They range from 1/2 of an inch to 5/8 of an inch long and can fit through a crack as small as a dime. Even though these roaches have fully developed wings, they don’t fly. Get rid of these roaches with Combat Roach Killing Bait Strips or Source Kill Max Roach Killing Gel.

American Cockroach: This reddish-brown species varies from 1.1 to 2 inches in length. They are extremely quick runners; able to move up to 50 body lengths per second. They’re also able to fly away for another quick escape. American cockroaches typically nest outdoors, but very close to buildings. You’ll find them active at night and are common in sewer systems. This kind of roach will eat just about anything it can get its hands on. Use Combat Source Kill Max for Large Roaches to exterminate American cockroaches!

Oriental Cockroach: You might smell this type of roach before you even see it. Oriental cockroaches are known for the unpleasant odor they emit when large populations are present. When you do see them, they’ll have a greasy shine and be about 1 inch long. Even though male roaches have wings, neither males nor females can fly. They nest outside, and are drawn to water. Fix any leaky hoses in your backyard and use Combat Source Kill Max Roach Killing Gel to seal cracks that roaches could use to enter your home.
